OK, ska/punk is my music of choice, and I realise I am severely outnumbered by the metalheads who have joined the board thus far, but come on people... Someone other than me must enjoy the odd horn section?!

;D Wooooo yeah!! I know rocksoc is primarily metal but we need some punk/ska too!! Goldfinger, Real Big Fish etc and maybe even some Clash or Ramones as an uber big favour for me.

This board is here for the reason that there are plenty of punk/ska fans out their, even if im not one, don't feel intimidated by us metalheads - it is still rock, it still counts, and still makes for a full dancefloor at rocksoc!

modern ska is utter shite - lets just clarify that the Ska were talking about is stuff like Madness right?

When I talk about ska I am incorporating older stuff like madness and the slackers, yes, but I also have a lot of love for the mad caddies, hippos, aquabats, capdown, spunge and various other ska/punk bands.

Can't we appreciate all ska, running from Madness to the Mad Caddies. Both examples are awesome and to distinguish beween the two seems a little wrong

ska meets metal - 'skacore' apparently. I guess Capdown fall into this genre, theyre pretty good to dance to if youre lashed.
In regards to ska pop-punk, i think some of Reel Big Fish's stuff is excellent, everyone loves 'Beer'.
Ooh and with pop punk, i think Fenix TX were really good, as are Goldfinger, some of the atticus bands. Avenged Sevenfold kinda seem like pop-punk to me, just with breakdown riffs occasionally and solos. Theyre pretty decent too.
oh and i forgot Jimmy Eat World too, fab band.

Have you heard Avenged Sevenfold's new album - I wouldn't put that anywhere near the pop or punk genres...

Yeah, but not the whole thing. I know its a bit extreme to call them pop punk, but when i listen to them i get this So Cal Orange country warped tour atticus pop punk vibe, i dunno why. Maybe im just good n drunk. But their accents and chorus's and overproduced albums just remind me of that scene as opposed to the metal scene. Not to mention their fashion-core white studded belts, toni and gay hair topshop fanbase.
Dont mean to knock them, because theyre a good band and play like bastards. Lars seems to like them too, but then again what does lars know nowadays anyway. I know i need a cold one and to finish an essay.

Im not particularly into ska but heard No COmply before they split up *sniffs* and they were awesome! ok so they werent ska really (according to some reviewer they were "horn-fuelled rock fury", sounds like ska to me) but its the closest ive come to liking ska.

While on the subject of punk is there spzce here for folk-punk? Just that Flogging Molly, the Dropkick Murphys and one of my fav bands EVER the Levellers fall into this category. So gutted i can't see the Levellers atm. distinct lack of cash and the problem of living in a stupidly far-flung northern hole. Saw the dropkick murphys though and they rocked at Reading. The Wild Rover is now the ultimate drinking song! "And it's No! Nae! NEVER!!!!"

Wow i have to admit i was bought as soon as i saw the phrase "Finnish Folk Metal". With this phrase you can never go wrong. All things conceded i hav heard little flogging Molly but Salty Dog was a great song.
This is all diverging from the point that the Levellers rule and i need to attend Glastonbury one year purely for the experience of worshipping at their minor stage altar.
