It is fast and stable because it is connected to Jnet. Actually, it's JANET. And it's connected to FaTMAN (which is part of JANET and has a very badly designed website). The whole University is hooked up on the same connection. The thing is the different departments I believe maintain theirs their own way - I know for sure DCS did - whereas ITS postblock the connections in the residences to stop you from filesharing.

Stupid A...
Goes through Dundee, which is why when they had the fire there our internet went off. Apparantly they want to bypass Dundee and have a dual pipe connection directly. Also the Physics department wants gigabit ethernet.

Well, that bit was left out.
And the stuff I know about the DCS connection I know from various WiredSoc members. And from Friday Nights in the lab...

My MSN experience today started off in a typically Windows way in that my MSN wasn't working. Well it was working fine but people couldnt see my pic and the 'what am i listening to' thing was deciding it wasnt going to play today. This then got me thinking "hmmmm ther is a newer version of MSN called Live Messenger...maybe that will sort out these minor quibbles if i downloaded it and upgraded. So all is fine, download fine, install fine. Went to sign in and the pretty icons floated round each other for a while.......and then a while more........and a bit longer............ Eventually an error thing pops up! Click the wee close box of love and try again. Process repeats many times resulting in me now being right royally pissed off and without any MSN whatsoever. Microsoft is going to be made to burn one day and I'm gonna be one of the first in line. I am now moved to think that the greatest oxymoron of all time is Microsoft Works.

Actually screw it, i have come to realise since my MSN is cutting out for no discernable reason whatsoever that it is infact a very small and annoying sibling personified in the form of a instant messaging service. MSN and all who programmed it should be culled. Im gonna switch to AIM or justt live on ebuddy.net instead coz this is pointless and stressfull.
