As someone who's been dancing, leaping, and cavorting around the edges of the Goth scene for a while I can quite helpfully (hah) state that Manson isn't considered gothic by those who are qualified (in my always humble opinion) to even consider making such judgements. Of course, trying to get them to agree on what /is/ gothic music is fun. Personally for the Gothic rock side I'd go for something like Bella Morte (www.bellamorte.com), or the more electronic styles with the like of the Cruxshadows (technically Cruexshadows if I'm not umlauting, but bite me) (www.cruxshadows.com), or something of a hybrid act like Synthetic (sadly their website appears to have departed- they were a Brighton based band, can be bought through www.musicnonstop.co.uk, but I can't find any tracks at the moment online). It's my understanding that in most gothic clubs they now play mainly EBM/futurepop and the like, which has been known to irritate some of the more rock-oriented goths. On a parting note: Invisible Ninja Pirate Monkeys? Now that'd just be silly, which once again goes to show: Pirates < Ninjas.
