The Defiant shows a better approach to ship building- i.e. what would a ship be like if Starfleet actually desgned it to kill things. The response: cool as heck! Dakka, dakka, BOOM!

Yes, but where's the captain's mess? Now that Starfleet has decent dress uniforms again, it's important to use them.

The captain's mess is wat you get when the captain's mother forgets to tell him to tidy his ready room...
What IS a ready room for anyway? Can't he just use the conference room?

The ready room is the captain's office, where he can do his reading/paperwork/whatever whilst being ready to dive through the door and command should he hear the infamous "oh shit it's green" response which indicates a decloaking Warbird.

If I remember correctly it also houses a few fish.

Optional only. I'm sure some captain somewhere will have an iguana or such instead. If I could be bothered, I would go downstairs and look in the Trek encyclopedia where the fish is named, but I'm lazy.

Well, bearing in mind I haven't watched TNG in a while and yet I can recall Picard has fish in his ready room (and work out which ship your on about from the last three posts on the thread), I think I'm doing pretty good.

It's a lion fish. The name eludes me.
Always struck me as bloody dangerous keeping a lion fish like that! I mean, if the Borg managed to crack the glass, it could break and land on Picard. He'd be dead in minutes fro the sting!

That's why the fish tank has its own structural integrity field.

OR its a cunning defense mechanism to guard the captain's day room.

According to wikipedia, the fish is called Livingston.
(And that was my 666th post, boys and girls...)
