I'm not saying every part of the board should be governed by rules.
But shall we have a loose set of "guideline" rules for the music forums at least, just to make sure any intelligent debates on ROCK matters doesn't dissolve into flamewars and immaturity?

Well I suppose its really down to if the mod team thinks a post is dragging a discussion into a flame war, then you guys can either edit or delete offending posts. If you want to be super harsh you can wander around with a banhammer as well. I suppose a guideline could be along the lines of: "Ensure your post(s) add something to an ongoing discussion and do not make personal attacks on fellow forum members"
Oh and real English is usually good too, 1337 is only good for humour (rather than communication).

I just thought it might be an idea to have a loose base at which posters can look to for advice on what will get your post modified/deleted, what will get you banninated, yadda.
i.e. spamming up threads, flaming, speaking in incomprehensible garbage.
From my experience, once things go beyond what we have now, some form of posting guidelines is required for both posters and moderators in order to keep some sense of peace.

Indeed, really depends how strict you want to be. Most forums develop guidelines over time. Or you could just tell people to look at this

Most forums do, yes. It depends what your dealing with. I've been on forums which have only really required a loose sense of the word rules. I've been on forums which haven't required rules at all. But I've also been on forums which really needed rules in order for things to stay in the right place. Heh, and yeah, I've seen that

Really depends on what the users are like, most people are sensible enough not to be a troll

My view on this is not to set out any rules, just for people to be reasonable, and as long as any offense battling between posters is all in good spirit, and doesn't get stupid, there shouldn't be a problem. I think its pretty obvious what will get posts edited/deleted etc so...meh...

Yeah, probably sensible. Besides we all kinda know each other anyway.
And I doubt flame wars seem as important when seen through a haze of Jaig ;D
