MGS2 was perfect for what it wanted to be. And no that wasn't an "interactive codec-athon". Missing the point doesn't mean there isn't one (Ask me at rocksoc, I'm not trying to be arsey but this does actually require a rather lengthy discussion, much more that im willing to type out anyway. The game has a lot to say, and like the other MGS games there's a lot to how it says things, as well as what it says. Like did you know Psycho Mantis is purely there to draw attention to the fact that the dual shock pad vibrates - and how weird it is that someone came up with a pad that vibrates in the first place?)

MGS1 was amazing - the bosses were original as was the game. MGS2 was a big pile of tedium. And the last Metal Gear boss was impossible on the hardest level.... But ok - ill take you down at rocksoc over it lol

I didn't say MGS was necessarily the best, only that it would win

how weird it is that someone came up with a pad that vibrates in the first place? Sony nicked the idea from nintendo, about the same time they "mysteriously" added an anologue controller to the PSX pad...

Best shooter ever ever ever is Call of Duty on the PC. 30-aside capture the flags whiled away many a dull lunch-break at work for me.
Havent played a huge amount of RPG but the Final Fantasy series and Fallout from aeons gone by was/were amazing.
Strategy - Total Annihalation was great 8 years ago and is great now, but then again so is Starcraft which wins by a neck and probably a bit of shoulder as well. (btw has anyone else still got the original Civ? with the wee squares marching across maps and doing battle by making funny beeps?)
Beat 'em ups i'd almost say Tekken 3 but sadly it is beaten by the wonder that is Super Smash Bros for the N64
Greatest Driving game either Mario Kart or NFSU2 (havent played the latest one)
And o yeh, any MGS beats Splinter Cell into a little hole in the ground.

by far the greatest ever RPG (single player that is) is Morrowind. I spend almost 3 solid months playing it and never got bored - was with the same character as well

Actually did anyone play Battle for Middle Earth? Command and Conquer but with Lord of the Rings. Quality craic especially since all you needed was cavalry because they could just run over the top of little foot soldiers. O how i love to see those orc bones shatter. Also going the evil side and knocking lumps out of Orlando Bloom is most satisfying It was a great game but i spose doesnt beat Starcraft so mine point temporarily escapeth me.

BFME rocked! Cavalry were awesome but pikemen would take em down anyday.
Gandalf's Word of Power ftw!

Nah, large amount of rohirrim archers with Eomer and Theoden standing next to them. Take down anything before they hit you and if they send an entire army against your wee band then just click glorious charge and run over the top of the whole thing, pikemen or no. Run to enemy base without slowing down, summon undead, summon ents. End Game.
But yes Gandlaf rocks. I actually always took more pleasure in the staff blasting thing and watching those orcs roll!

Best driving game has to be HALO.
"You can't drive up there!" "I just did."

Yes, the last bit of Halo where you speed through the Pillar of Autumn in the Warthog is so much fun!

I rather liked the first level myself. Particularly going up the little valley filled wiht rocks that's just about large enough to get a Warthog through.
Just.
At a push.

That's the demo, not the first level.
