As a forum with impecable taste I reckon we can come up with a list of pretty kick ass games. So get nominating! To make things easier you can nominate one game for each of the following categories - Shoot 'Em Up
- RPG/Adventure
- RTS/Other Strategy
- Beat 'Em Up
- Driving
- None of the above
Everyone knows sports games and sims suck so they aren't on there ;D Stealth games aren't getting a vote because MGS is clearly going to win I'm only going to nominate one at present and that is Total Annihilation (for best goddamned RTS ever made)

I think Resident Evil 4 is going to have to be my nom for best Shoot Em Up (if it's allowed, which I think it should. The adventure bits suck)
For best adventure I nominate Shadow Of The Colossus. It's heroic, epic, tragic and thought provoking. Everything a good RPG/Adventure should be, along with some absolutly kick ass gameplay (the 16 colossi are basically "inverted zelda dungeons") and breathtaking graphics. In no other game have I wondered about aimlessly just to see what type of scenery and shit I could find, just to look at it.

Hey, I'm not going to argue that it isn't an excellent FPS, I don't suffer from anti-Halo syndrome *cough*Patrick*cough* ;D

Hey, I'm not going to argue that it isn't an excellent FPS, I don't suffer from anti-Halo syndrome *cough*Patrick*cough* ;D? What? In Japan they respect proper genres, like RPGS... Anyway, my list: Shoot 'Em Up- FPS: Perfect Dark. Or Metroid Prime (damn!) - Other: Starfox 64, Parodius! RPG- Fallout (True RPG), Final Fantasy VI (less true RPG) Adventure- Zelda- I, III, OOT RTS- Age of Empires II Other Strategy: Civ Beat 'Em Up: Super Street Fighter II, any Soul Calibur Driving: F-Zero GX. And obviously Mario Kart Platformer: Sonic 3 (better yet, Sonic 3 and Knuckles), Yoshi's Island Stealth: Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater (subtle hint to your left...) Survival Horror: Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem (sequel please!), ResEv 4 Puzzle: Tetris, Panel de Pon

Oh and for best RPG I vote Vagrant Story. It's the best Square RPG no one has ever heard of. It's got everything you expect from an RPG: Well presented characters and story, GREAT battle system (a cross between turn based, real time, rythem game, and street fighter combos), fantastic bosses and a cracking soundtrack. What one doesn't expect (especially from square) is a game full of moral ambiguity that (shock horror) doesn't actually finish neatly, and leaves you with a lot to ponder (including who lives or dies). The top notch translation (one of the best I've seen actually) that is presented via comic book style speech bubbles is the icing on a particuarly tasty cake.
It's actually like a cross between Metal Gear Solid (well it did get called Medieval Gear Solid at times) Final Fantasy and Super Metroid. If that doesn't make you fucking cream yourself then you're dead to me.
As Ashly Riot once said: "Renforcments? I AM the reinforcments.". I always like to imagine he followed that with "BITCH!".

Shoot Em Up - Deus Ex RPG - Final Fantasy VII RTS - Age of Empires II Beat 'Em Up - Tekken (has to be) Driving - Colin McRae Rally Other - Black and White
and to be honest, I would just list a big load of RPGs, cos I love em, and it tends to be all I play...meh...

Deus Ex is more of a hybrid RPG adventure shoot em up, but heres mine:
Shoot 'Em Up: Aliens vs. Predator 2 RPG/Adventure - The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind RTS/Other Strategy - Ground Control Beat 'Em Up: Mortal Kombat Driving: Rock n' Roll Racing None of the above: The Movies
and thats bullshit about MGS being best stealth. Splinter Cell is soooooo THE stealth game.

And the fact that the game doesn't end in MGS if you get caught, but actually gives you OPTIONS.

in the later Splinter Cells it doesnt matter as much if you get caught (although the enemies start wearing body armour and stuff if you are). MGS1 was good. MGS2 was an interactive codec-athon. Can't afford to get MGS3 lol
