So it's all agreed that the Zelda games are definately a very good thing indeed (well except for the Wind Waker, but hey, everybody gets one mistake) but which is your favourite, and why?
Mine would have to be Majora's Mask - Totally the "Empire Strikes Back" of the Zelda series. It's darker, smarter and more demanding, and a has a much better plot.
I mean the dungeons are evil genius, but actually getting to them in the first place is a massive feat, and so cleverly done. It's got some of my favourite puzzles in the entire series (look at what they did with the fucking Ice Arrows for christ sakes) and although the main bosses are weak, the sub and mini dungeon ones are class. The giant eye and Ikana's dead king are brilliant (although a bit of a rip off of LTTP ones).
And I really can't say enough good things about the plot, both the sub and main ones. Especially the reuniting lost lovers, the Deku Butler and his dead son, the history of Ikana etc, there was such an incredible feeling of saddness and melencholy throught the entire game. It's so good I think it's the first (and only) Zelda game in which I gave a shit over the characters, and the ending was so SO emotional.
So what's yours?

Ocarina of Time, being one of the best games I've ever played.

Wuh? Majora's Mask? It can be completed in a day, recycles ideas and characters from OOT, the plot is "borrowed" from FFVII, there isn't a proper save system- okay, I like it a lot more now than I used to, and it is undoubtedly innovative, but it lags behind the rest of the series, I feel... Oh well, 'tis my opinion.
My favourite is OOT, but it competes with aLttP (to which it owes a large debt in terms of location, characters and plot) and Link's Awakening, which had me questioning reality years before The Matrix did.
I am avoiding getting into a Wind Waker debate. And Four Swords is sub-par...

Dude most of the best games can be completed in a day...check out the speeddemosarchive.com/ for a look at some impressive (and kind scary) times for completing stuff like Banjo-Kazooie, the Devil May Cry games and MGS games. That shit takes leet skills man. And I totally stand behind Majora's mask, (never played FFVII) but I was talking more about how the sub plots were used to really increase the feeling of doom and sadness in termia. And the Zelda game's recylce characters and ideas ALL THE TIME so that's hardly a noetworthy criticism.

MM just didn't... gel with me. Maybe beacuse I'm fond of the games that add to the main storyline (I also like The Wind Waker, so I predict we are doomed to disagree).
As I recall the record for completing the original Zelda was something silly like 37 minutes- apparently some people have done nothing but play it for two decades...

Yeah, I had problems finding stuff- its a shame the others in the series aren't so free and open ended- they're on rails a bit too much. Do a Zelda MMORPG! Oh, go on! Then I'll just give up on going out, ever!
