METAL! Symphonic Metal!I mention to some people I like goth music. And they say, "oh, stuff like Nightwish? I like them!". And I die a little inside... Fact is, Nightwish is no where near goth, in either it's themes or it's sound.

Someones a bit touchy - although I feel symphonic metal is not quite right...they are more operatic metal...there is a difference - symphonic metal would be more symphony x, and tends to also fall in the prog metal category (says the guy who doesn't bother with sub genres!!!)

Goth Music is something you don't mess with me on Thats what the Wiki says. Would actually agree with the Operatic stuff, though.

Symphonic metal is a loose term, and remember wiki is written by people who may be wrong...in my eyes symphonic metal is metal that has orchestral accompaniment or backing, and symphony x are the best example of that that I can think of. So ner!

Yeah, I know. I just tend to like to have some backup on what I'm saying, rather than speaking JUST from oppinion Wikipedia is by far the easiest and most well-known resource. Stops me from talking shit XD

Anyone can edit wiki so anything that's completely wrong is edited out pretty damn quickly by the fanatics. It tends to be right. Tends to.

Over time Wikipedia becomes more accurate, and they do have extensive discussion forums.
As for Nightwish I kinda like 'em, and I'll take Roulette's word on their not-gothness, though I would agrue for them not being power metal.

Agreement.
Nightwish rather rock but they don't belong here, they belong in metal.

Meh...I wouldve done till I met Roulette who has put me straight on a few things...I think its more that their lead singer dresses quite gothic, and therefore gives the band that appearance, yet their actual music is not...

definitely Symphonic Metal. Symphonic Power Metal is different - more like Bodom.
