What do you guys reckon, fashioncore scene trendyboys with boyzone chorus' or a skillfull metal band with cool hooks, solos and a mighty stage presence?
Personally i like their music alot, but some of their heavy/death vox sound a bit generic and their lyrics are naff.
Either way i think their next album is gonna makes some waves.

With bands like trivium I tend to ignore the lyrics and vocals and just listening to the orgasmic guitarness...so yeah they rock...

Yeah the lyrics blow, but Matt (Heffy that is) has a pretty good grasp of dynamics. And the fuckin harmony bit after the solos in "Gunshot To The Head Of Trepidation" is one of the sweetest things ever. FACT. (or not fact, you decide. Remeber, it's the more you know)

I must confess to not knowing their stuff, however I nearly always ignore lyrics or the point/meaning of something, I only care if it rocks! ;D

Indeed - lyrics do play a part but they are far from the most important thing. Its the music that matters!

Trivium can lick the sweat from my arse crack, I don't like them and I don't like the hype behind them. The new Metallica? Sorry but I wasn;t aware there was something wrong with Metallica that we needede a new one.
And Matt Heafy looks more and more like a pretty boy that has dressed up smart for the first time he is going to see a girls parents.
Trivium are like the Darkness, they were both trumped up as being the new thing in music when in reality they aint that great and they will hopefully fade into the background after 2 albums.

Not a huge fan to be honest, by no means are they utter shite but there are bands who do what they do but better. The Crown for one were a band with a similiar sound who just didn't get the recognition. Trivium where in the right place at the right time and Roadrunner Records gave them the push, money and press they needed to make it big. Who knows they might be the next Pantera or maybe they'll just nail out a few good songs, ride the fame theyve got and then the metal scene will move onto a new thing.
NB - Interesting point there Brother Munro how you dont pay attention to lyrics and only care if it rocks. Strange how people listen to music in different ways.

I enjoy listening to Trivium every now and then personally. They're not a band you concentrate on the lyrics too much with. They're more a band you play for the sound behind the lyrics.
There are plenty bands who will deal with those who are going to be picky cocks with lyrics. Trivium just isn't one of them.

Meh...for me they are one of these bands who have done a couple of songs that I like to listen to, but not really that bothered...I agree about Matt Heafy, he looks like a walking emo turtle turd...when I first encountered Dream Theater, I went crazy and got hold of as many albums, info etc etc I could - Trivium just didn't do it for me in that sense - however, I still think the guitar work on a few of their songs is great - overall though...meh

Well mate it would help if Trivium had more than two albums. And Dream Theater seems to do that to a lot of people! Only bands that have done that to me have been DT, Mike Patton Projects and "Coheed and Cambria". Make of that what you will.
"Trivium are like the Darkness, they were both trumped up as being the new thing in music when in reality they aint that great and they will hopefully fade into the background after 2 albums."
Well I, and a lot of people, got in to Trivium without the hype but because they write (and I'm going to have to say this aren't I?) in my opinon damn fine metal. Ok it helps that they are the first mainstream band to have such awsome solos for ohhhhhh about 15 years or so, and that they are attractive young men, but as a second album (mainstream debut) by a bunch of 19 and 20 year olds it's a fucking masterpiece. Trivium as far as I know have not stopped touring for at least a year and a half, coming round the UK twice in that time. They clearly have a dedication to their fan base and seem fucking grateful to be where they are.
The Darkness on the other hand bought in to their own hype, didn't tour, and then vanished for five years before producing a sub-par album upon their return. Surprisingly pop music had moved on in that time and people went meh. Hell around their time the big trend in the UK music press was the so called "saviour of music", every few months an up and coming band would have this lofty title placed upon them, and so far all of them have vanished completely - "Andrew WK" "The Darkness" and "Scissor Sisters" being the most notable names. Although I still listen to them, well not the Darkness, but AWK and SS for sure.

Sorry but I wasn;t aware there was something wrong with Metallica that we needede a new one. Two words: St. Anger QED. Personally, ive only heard Ascendancy (the album) and i liked it - some very decent tracks. And i never even knew there was that much hype... - i only got into them as i was being served in sainsburys buy some guy who saw i was wearing a Maiden shirt and told me to check em out.
